Al-Jailani won't go to Yemen unless safety can be assured
Supporters of former Kent resident Ashraf Al-Jailani are more hopeful than
ever that he will soon return home from his 26-month federal detention.
While federal Immigration Judge Walter Durling ordered Al-Jailani's
deportation in a ruling Friday, he also said Al-Jailani cannot be sent to
his native Yemen unless the United States can obtain diplomatic assurances
Al-Jailani will not be tortured there.
Al-Jailani has said he could be tortured in Yemen because of terror
allegations the U.S. government has made against him
