Participants in Immigrants, Muslims and Refugee Capitol Day will hold meetings with elected officials to discuss issues of concern to the state’s voters. Before leaving the Capitol, members of the Muslim community will hold a communal prayer at 1:45 p.m. in the 1st floor Rotunda room.

“The annual Capitol Day is an opportunity for the voice of Missouri Muslims to be heard by elected officials and to challenge unconstitutional measures introduced in the legislature,” said CAIR-Missouri Executive Director Faizan Syed.

Syed said Capitol Day participants will advocate against is S.B. 849 and H.B. 2179, which would restrict the First Amendment right to engage in boycotts to protect Palestinian rights in Missouri. Civil rights advocates say these bills are unconstitutional, and if passed, will invite lawsuits similar to those in Kansas.

“We believe the right to participate in a boycott is protected by the Constitution,” said Syed.
