Action Alert: CAIR Urges American Muslims to Join in Historic DC March for Justice and Equality on Saturday

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 1/18/17) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today asked Muslim participants in the January 21st Women’s March on Washington to pick up signs for the event at its Capitol Hill headquarters, which is near the march’s kick-off location. 

[NOTE: CAIR is a partner organization for the march and a representative of the civil rights organization is scheduled to speak at the event.]

Signs that will be offered to march participants include “Women’s Rights are Human Rights, “Muslims Support Justice and Equality for All†and “Say No to a ‘Muslim Registry.†They will be available for pick up beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, at CAIR’s office, 453 New Jersey Avenue, S.E., Washington, D.C.

“The historic Women’s March on Washington is an opportunity – and a duty – for American Muslims to demonstrate their support for other communities and for justice and equality,†said CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad.

He cited the verse for the Quran, Islam’s revealed text, which states: “O you who believe! Stand out firmly for justice as witnesses to God.†(Qur’an 4:135).

Awad said the march will begin at 10 a.m. the day after the presidential inauguration on Saturday, January 21, in Washington, D.C., with participants gathering at the intersection of Independence Avenue and Third Street S.W. Details about the route will be released closer to the date of the event.





Muslim march participants who wish to pick up signs are being encouraged to take the metro to the Capitol South station, which is just two blocks from CAIR’s office.
