ACTION ALERT: Deadline Nears for CAIR 2018 ‘American Muslim of the Year’ Award Nominations

Award to be presented at CAIR’s 24th annual banquet recognizes achievements and contributions of American Muslims

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 10/4/18) — Nominations for CAIR’s annual “American Muslim of the Year” award must be submitted by 5 p.m. (Eastern), October 5, 2018. The award will be presented at CAIR’s 24th annual banquet October 20 at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, Va., alongside speakers such as Abdul El-Sayed, Aisha al-Adawiya and Khaled Beydoun.

To nominate someone for the 2018 CAIR American Muslim of the Year Award, take 2 minutes or so to provide Tell us who you nominate and why you think they qualify. Click here for the nomination form: https://tinyurl.com/MuslimoftheYear2018  

The award honors an American Muslim who demonstrated “exemplary service to the country and the community” at the local or national level over the last year by “inspiring and empowering.”

To be eligible to receive the award, the nominee must also reside in the United States and be able to attend the banquet. Three finalists will be announced on October 8th and the public will be invited to vote for the winner between October 9-12, 2018.

[NOTE: Past American Muslim of the Year awardees cannot be nominated. Previous awardees include Linda Sarsour, Khizr Khan, Ahmed Mohamed, Rep. Keith Ellison, and M.J. Khan.]

CAIR’s banquet will be held after the conclusion of its October 19-20 Leadership and Policy Conference, themed “We the People, Organizing for Justice: Vision 2020,” also at the Crystal Gateway Marriott. Conference attendees will learn the most up-to-date organizing skills from American Muslim leaders and civil rights activists who are on the front lines mobilizing for justice in today’s divisive political climate.
