(BALTIMORE, MD, 10/4/2023) – The Maryland office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, is inviting community members to join CAIR staff at mosques around the state this week as part of its Muslim Civil Rights Bus Tour.
The CAIR Civil Rights Tour Bus was at the Diyanet Center of America festival last weekend, and will be visiting Masjid An Nur Foundation, Masjid Ihsan, Dar At Taqwa, Muslim Community Center, Islamic Center of Maryland, Islamic Society of Germantown, and other Maryland mosques and Islamic centers today and later this week. The visits will be an opportunity for community members to learn about the services CAIR offers, as well as share their concerns, challenges and perspectives on how CAIR can best serve their needs.
Community members will also be able to learn how to safeguard their communities, collaborate with neighbors of other faiths in the fights against hate and uphold their rights with CAIR’s tools and resources.
“We’re pleased to welcome the Civil Rights Bus Tour in Maryland this week and encourage the community to take advantage of this opportunity to meet more of our team members who are an integral part of the work to defend our rights and freedoms,” said CAIR’s Maryland director Zainab Chaudry. “The bus is stocked with free coffee, tea, lemonade, and halal snacks to enjoy as you share your experiences and learn more about CAIR’s work.”
“During our month-long tour in the DMV area, we want to visit as many mosques and events as possible to bring the community up to speed on the steps taken to combat Islamophobia and provide them with tools to navigate bias against Muslims,” said CAIR’s Development Director Tayyab Yunus, who is driving the tour bus. “We look forward to seeing everyone at a stop near you.”
CAIR staff will also share information about how to register for the upcoming annual banquets in Maryland and Virginia later this month.
