(MINNEAPOLIS, MN, 11/2/2022) – The Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MN) today called on local, state and federal law enforcement authorities to investigate an online threat to firebomb its office.
CAIR-MN received the threatening message yesterday through its online platform to submit reports on incidents and request legal support. The author of the message demanded CAIR-MN Executive Director Jaylani Hussein retract a statement he made earlier this month welcoming bias charges against a woman who reportedly assaulted a Somali man. “Retract this statement, and acknowledge that the work you do is absurd, or you and your offices will be firebombed next Saturday,” the message read.
In a statement, CAIR-MN Executive Director Jaylani Hussein said:
“As an organization that has successfully defended the civil rights of the American Muslim community and promoted justice for decades, we are neither surprised nor intimidated when anti-Muslim bigots lash out at us with threats of violence. However, every threat must be properly investigated to ensure the safety of our community. We call on local, state and federal law enforcement authorities – including the FBI – to launch an investigation into this threat.”
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
