CAIR, ACLU of Md. Host Discussion on Religious Freedom with Attorney, Author Asma Uddin

On Tuesday, January 28, CAIR and the ACLU of Maryland co-hosted a discussion on religious freedom with attorney Asma Uddin, who answered questions about her book “When Islam is Not a Religion: Inside the Fight for Religious Freedom in America.â€

Held at the Ivy Bookshop in Baltimore, the packed event led to a thought-provoking conversation on topics ranging from religion in schools, religious land use and RLUIPA, and anti-sharia laws in America, to general misconceptions and stereotypes about the faith that lead to fear-mongering and intolerance.

Uddin also delved into her personal journey that led to the writing of this book, and provided an abbreviated contextual analysis of some key points and principles in its text. The event concluded with a book-signing by the author.
