CAIR Action Alert Update: Call Senate Committee to Oppose Sessions’ Confirmation, Vote to Come Soon

CAIR logo(WASHINGTON, D.C., 1/23/17) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, is calling on all Americans to call members of the U.S. Senate Judiciary to voice opposition to the confirmation of Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) as attorney general of the United States.

TAKE ACTION: See Phone Numbers and Call Script Below

It is being reported that the committee has scheduled a 10 a.m. “Executive Business Meeting” tomorrow to again consider Sessions’ nomination – with either the possibility of a vote following the meeting or being delayed until next week.

Earlier this month, CAIR announced that it opposed Sessions confirmation and had urged all Americans to call members of the Judiciary Committee to request that they too oppose his nomination and question him about his past anti-Muslim statements, current associations with anti-Muslim hate groups and his views on a number of civil rights issues during next week’s confirmation hearing.

Suggested Message:

“Hello, my name is and I am calling to urge Senator to “VOTE NO” on the confirmation of Attorney General Nominee Senator Jeff Sessions due to his past anti-Muslim statements and current associations with anti-Muslim hate groups as well as alleged racist remarks.

Specifically, I urge the Senator to “VOTE NO” on Sessions’ nomination because of:

  • His support for President Trump’s “extreme vetting” of Muslims traveling to U.S.
  • His support to keep the prison at Guantanamo Bay open and indefinitely detaining prisoners in U.S. custody without a speedy trial or due process.
  • His association and acceptance of awards from the anti-Muslim hate groups Center for Security Policy and David Horwitz Freedom Center.
  • His views on other critical issues such as police-involved shootings, protection of voting rights, enforcement of hate crimes laws, discrimination in education, and immigration reform.

Thank you.
