(WASHINGTON, D.C., 7/29/14) — On Friday, August 1, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation's largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, will co-sponsor a congressional briefing from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in 2103 Rayburn House Office Building to discuss whether Israel is complying with U.S. and international laws in its injuring and killing civilians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, which includes East Jerusalem.
Take Action: Invite Your Lawmakers to Congressional Briefing
Take a few minutes to write and call your members of Congress and ask each office to send a lawmaker, legislative director, or foreign policy aide to this important briefing.
This briefing will examine whether Israel complies with U.S. laws, such as the Arms Export Control Act and Foreign Assistance Act, and international law in its use of force against Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip and West Bank, which includes East Jerusalem. Does Israel conduct thorough, credible, and transparent investigations into human rights violations? Is Israel capable of holding itself accountable? What actions should the United States take to hold Israel accountable for its violations of U.S. laws?
Through personal experience and professional expertise, members of the panel will address the extent to which Israel uphold its obligation to investigate human rights abuses and hold those responsible accountable.
