(WASHINGTON D.C., 8/22/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today applauded the bulldozing of a Confederate monument in Enfield, N.C.
Enfield’s mayor posted a video of a tractor bringing down a Confederate monument at a local park. The statue has been in the park since 1928. The Enfield Board of Commissioners approved the removal of the monument.

“We applaud the bulldozing of this symbol of racism, white supremacy and treason,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “No public space should honor the traitors and white supremacists of the Confederacy.”
He noted that last week, CAIR welcomed the decision of a South Carolina county to rescind its plan to install a monument to a Confederate general.
CAIR has repeatedly called for the removal of Confederate holidays, flags, statues, and symbols nationwide.
