(WASHINGTON D.C., 9/6/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today urged federal law enforcement authorities to launch an investigation into threats allegedly made by white supremacist groups targeting the mayor of the North Carolina town of Enfield.
Enfield’s Mayor Mondale Robinson will hold a news conference today to call for an investigation into threats he allegedly received from white supremacist groups. Robinson has been the subject of controversy since he bulldozed a monument that honored Confederate soldiers, among other veterans. The town council had voted to have the monument removed.

“Racist threats targeting elected officials must be investigated at the national level because they impact the civil rights and political participation of all Americans,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “We call on federal law enforcement authorities to launch an investigation into these threats and to ensure the safety of anyone targeted by hate.”
He noted that CAIR condemned the distribution of racist letters in Enfield after the monument was toppled.
