CAIR Asks Louisiana Congressman to Clarify ‘Kill Them All’ Facebook Post

Rep. Clay Higgins Facebook Post June 4

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 6/6/17) — The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil liberties organization, today sent a letter to Congressman Clay Higgins (LA-R) seeking clarification of his June 4 Facebook post in which he declared “All of Christendom. . .is at war with Islamic horror” and “Kill them. Kill them all,” following Saturday’s terror attacks in London.

In a letter to Rep. Higgins, CAIR Director of Government Affairs Department Robert McCaw wrote in part:

“Like you, the American Muslim community condemns terrorism whenever it happens, wherever it happens, whoever commits it. That said, can you please clarify what you meant by stating:

  • “The free world… all of Christendom… is at war with Islamic horror.”

Clarification requested: Was your statement of “Christendom. . .is at war with Islamic horror” only limited to criminal terrorist groups like Daesh (ISIS), Al Qaeda and their deviant followers, or are you referring to all Muslims and Muslim majority nations? Many have inferred this statement as being a call to war between Christianity and Islam.

  • “Not one penny of American treasure should be granted to any nation who harbors these heathen animals.” Clarification requested: In saying “these heathen animals” are you only referring to criminal terrorist groups like Daesh, Al Qaeda and their deviant followers, or are you including all Muslims?
  • “Their intended entry to the American homeland should be summarily denied.” Clarification requested: By this statement are you stating support for a travel ban limited only to criminal terrorist groups like Daesh, Al Qaeda and their deviant followers, or are you referring to all Muslims?
  • “Every conceivable measure should be engaged to hunt them down. Hunt them, identify them, and kill them. Kill them all.”

Clarification requested: Are you referring only to the lawful targeting of criminal terrorist groups like Daesh, Al Qaeda and their deviant followers, or are you referring to all Muslims?

”˜We live in a climate of rising hate in which a self-avowed white supremacist recently stabbed to death two men and injured a third after they heroically intervened on behalf of two young women who were the target of the killer’s anti-Muslim insults and abuse. Islamophobic and anti-Muslim political rhetoric has the power to radicalize, embolden and incite individuals who possess hateful views of other races, religions or nationalities to commit violent criminal acts of terrorism.

”˜The American Muslim community is a natural enemy of violent extremists. Our positive track record of success fully discredits the arguments that minorities cannot receive fair treatment in our nation. Our civil rights organization has condemned specific terrorist actions against Muslims, Christians, Jews, Hindus, Americans, Spaniards, Turks, Israelis, Saudis, Russians, Egyptians, Jordanians, Iraqis, British, and so on.

“We look forward to hearing from you on this matter and hope to continue what is an ongoing dialogue on this important and pressing issue.”

CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.

La misión de CAIR es mejorar la comprensión del Islam, fomentar el diálogo, proteger las libertades civiles, capacitar a los musulmanes estadounidenses, y construir coaliciones que promuevan la justicia y la comprensión mutua.
