(PHOENIX, ARIZONA, 10/11/2023) – The Arizona chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-AZ), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on community members to call on their members of Congress to call for an immediate end to the spiraling violence in the Middle East, express support for the humanity of both Palestinian and Israeli civilians, and call on the U.S. to hold the Israeli government accountable for bombing civilians in the Gaza strip with American weaponry.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is responding to the ongoing situation in Israel and Gaza by urging all Americans to reach out to their respective members of Congress and request the following actions:
· Acknowledge the loss of lives and recognize the humanity on both sides, including Israelis and Palestinians.
· Express support for an immediate ceasefire.
· Demand the United States to reassert its leadership role as a negotiator in pursuit of a lasting peace. This entails addressing the root causes of violence, terminating Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories, and ending the Israeli government’s apartheid policies.

“Indiscriminate violence, whether the bombing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza or the shooting of Israeli civilians in Israel, not only results in tragic loss of life but more violence. It is imperative to recognize that the path to peace and justice lies in respecting the rights and dignity of all people, “said Azza Abuseif, executive director of CAIR-AZ. “We condemn all attacks on civilians, Israeli or Palestinian, and call on our leaders to seek an end to the occupation that is fueling these cycles of violence.”
She noted that yesterday, CAIR’s national office called on the Biden administration to oppose Israel’s “self-declared war crimes” after that nation’s government declared a “siege” on the entire civilian population of Gaza and escalated a mass bombing campaign that has killed hundreds of Palestinian civilians.
