CAIR-CA to Release Report on Faith-Based Bullying of Muslim Students in California Schools 

(LOS ANGELES, CA – 10/26/2021) – On Thursday, Oct. 28,the four state offices of the Council on American-Islamic Relations California (CAIR-CA) will hold a virtual press conference to release the latest report documenting faith-based bullying of Muslim students in California schools. 

The report, titled “CAIR-California’s 2021 Bullying Report: Examining Islamophobia in California Schools,” is based on a statewide survey of some 700 Muslim students ages 11 to 18. CAIR-CA surveyed Muslim students across California about the bullying and discrimination they suffered both from peers and school adults.

The CAIR-CA report also shares anecdotes collected from students during survey outreach. It follows similar reports in 2019, 2017, 2015 and 2013, and charts how the landscape of faith-based bullying of Muslim students in California has changed. The report provides recommendations for educators and parents about how to best protect students from bullying in school. 

CAIR offers a booklet, called “An Educator’s Guide to Islamic Religious Practices,” designed to help school officials provide a positive learning environment for Muslim students.
