(WASHINGTON, D.C., 12/1/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and its New Jersey chapter (CAIR-NJ) today welcomed a statement by N.J. Governor Phil Murphy condemning an incident of ethnic and religious harassment and perceived bias-motivated intimidation that reportedly targeted the Muslim Center of Middlesex County (MCMC).
During an event Saturday, a truck displaying a digital billboard with photos from the 2008 Mumbai attacks circled through the parking lot of the mosque. In a tweet posted last night, Gov. Murphy expressed his condemnation of the incident. “Anti-Muslim intimidation tactics are utterly unacceptable and downright shameful,” Murphy said. “No one should have to fear being harassed at their place of worship or in their community.”

In a statement, CAIR Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said:
“We thank Governor Murphy for speaking out against this attempt to intimidate worshippers at a New Jersey mosque. Such displays of bigotry cannot be tolerated and should be condemned by all local elected officials.”
He noted that last night, CAIR-NJ welcomed the governor’s condemnation of the incident.
