CAIR Calls for Hate Crime Probe of Apparent Neo-Nazi Vandalism Targeting Tina Turner Mural in North Carolina

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 12/30/19) — The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on law enforcement authorities to investigate apparent neo-Nazi vandalism targeting a mural of African-American pop star Tina Turner in Asheville, N.C., as a hate crime.

Someone recently drew a crude Nazi swastika (three of the four arms pointed in the wrong direction) centered on Turner’s face in the mural.

Hooper said CAIR has reported an unprecedented spike in bigotry targeting American Muslims, immigrants and members of other minority groups since the election of Donald Trump as president.
