(WASHINGTON, D.C., 10/10/19)– The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called for a hate crime probe of a racist slur found on a biracial couple’s vehicle in Norfolk, Va.

The “N-word” was written on the rear driver’s side window of the family’s SUV.

“We condemn this repugnant display of hate and urge law enforcement authorities to investigate the incident as a hate crime,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “Virginians of all faiths and backgrounds should speak out against the disturbing rise in bigotry – encouraged by some in the highest positions in our society – that can embolden racists.”

Hooper said CAIR has reported an unprecedented spike in bigotry targeting American Muslims, immigrants and members of other minority groups since the election of Donald Trump as president.
