(WASHINGTON, D.C., 2/27/2023) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on the Biden administration to take concrete action after Israeli settlers went on a violent rampage targeting Palestinians in Nablus and Israeli officials said they have no plans to halt the construction of illegal settlements.
Israeli settlers have reportedly carried out at least 300 attacks, including shootings and arson, in a rampage through Palestinian villages in the Nablus area of the occupied West Bank. The riots resulted in one death and over 300 injuries. The settlers were reportedly protected by Israeli soldiers. Knesset Member Zvika Fogel praised the riots.

Hours after meeting with officials of the Palestinian Authority, Egypt and the United States to discuss steps to de-escalate tensions amid violence in the occupied territories, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the building of Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank will continue.

“Only clear condemnations and concrete action by the Biden administration, including the threat of conditions on U.S. aid, can reign in Israel’s far-right apartheid government and the racist settlers it enables,” said CAIR Deputy Executive Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell. “These escalating crimes of mass violence, and the occupation itself, must end.”
He noted that last week, CAIR called on the Biden administration to condemn a raid conducted by Israeli forces in the West Bank city of Nablus that left 10 Palestinians dead and scores wounded.
