(WASHINGTON D.C., 4/15/22) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on President Biden to condemn an assault by Israeli forces on worshipers in the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem — one of Islam’s holiest sites — during the holy month of Ramadan.
CAIR is also urging Americans of all faiths to contact the Biden administration to demand that it protect Palestinian human and religious rights.

More than 150 people were injured when Israeli forces stormed the compound Friday as thousands of worshippers were at the mosque for early morning prayers. The Palestinian Red Crescent said Israeli forces hindered the arrival of medical personnel who sought to treat the wounded.
Media reports indicate that the mosque compound was attacked without pretext. The assault came as extremist Jewish groups called for such raids and threatened to offer animal sacrifices at the Islamic holy site.

In a statement, CAIR National Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said:
“We condemn the Israeli apartheid government’s brutal assault on worshipers at one of the world’s holiest sites in the holy month of Ramadan, and we call on President Biden to do the same.
“Every Ramadan, Israel escalates its human rights abuses against the Palestinian people and Al-Aqsa Mosque compound while our nation funds and enables this violence. Decades of steadfast U.S. support for the Israeli government’s human rights abuses have led their forces to commit such attacks with impunity, without fear of repercussions.
“Events in Ukraine have reminded us that all people, regardless of faith, race or geography, deserve to live in peace and freedom. Human rights violations are wrong, whether they are committed by an American ally or by an adversary. The Biden administration must show the same concern for Palestinian human rights that it has rightly shown for Ukrainian human rights, starting today.”
