(WASHINGTON D.C., 2/28/22) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken to speak against ongoing human rights abuses by the Israeli government, including a recent police assault on a Palestinian girl and other children in Jerusalem during a religious event.
On Monday, Israeli forces attacked worshipers during a religious festival marking the miraculous journey of Prophet Muhammad (may peace be upon him) to Jerusalem, called “al-Isra wa al-Miraj.” Israeli police blasted skunk spray on Palestinians outside the mosque, fired a stun grenade that hit and broke the jaw of a young girl, and attacked a 12-year-old girl with batons. The attacks reportedly injured 31 people.

In a statement, CAIR National Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said:
“The Biden administration should condemn the Israeli apartheid government’s latest attacks on Palestinian worshipers. Beating a 12-year-old girl with batons and shooting another girl in the face with a stun grenade are disgusting, cowardly crimes. Our nation cannot continue to condemn human rights violations by our adversaries while funding human rights violations committed by our so-called allies. All violations of religious and human rights should be treated as equally unacceptable.”
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
