CAIR Calls on Senate to Support Iran War Powers Resolution After Trump Threatens Attacks on Civilian Infrastructure

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on the Senate to support the Iran War Powers Act after President Trump threatened to prolong and escalate the illegal war with Iran by bombing civilian infrastructure.

In a Truth Social post, Trump said U.S. forces would “bomb and destroy one bridge or power plant” in Iran in response to any Iranian attack on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement, CAIR Government Affairs Director Robert McCaw said:

“Bombing civilian infrastructure is a blatant war crime that would cause untold deaths and suffering. Babies in incubators, hospital patients hooked up to life support machines, people who need surgery – this is who our nation would endanger if President Trump acts on these threats to bomb civilian power plants across Iran. These attacks on civilian sites would also risk escalating and prolonging the war, putting more American soldiers at risk, and costing more American taxpayer dollars, all ultimately for the benefit of the same Israeli government that got President Trump in this war. It is long past time for the Senate to join the House in voting to end this illegal war by supporting the Iran War Powers Act.”

CAIR noted that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the cost of the war has reached $37.5 billion.
