(BALTIMORE, MD, 1/11/2023) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today joined the Maryland Governor’s Office on Community Initiatives, the Maryland Commission on Civil Rights, BRIDGE-MD, the Baltimore NAACP, and the Caucus of African American Leaders to hold an emergency preparedness summit for interfaith leaders.
At today’s summit, faith leaders participated in exercises and workshops and heard from federal, state and local law enforcement agencies on ways to boost security at their houses of worship; the federal statues, definition and investigation of hate crimes; active shooter preparedness; and applying for security grant funding.

“With attacks on houses of worship on the rise in Maryland and nationwide, it is essential that faith leaders have the tools they need to ensure the safety of their communities,” said CAIR’s Maryland Director Zainab Chaudry. “We thank all the leaders for participating in this summit and we thank the law enforcement agencies who helped run the training.”
She urged American Muslims and other faith communities nationwide to take extra security precautions using advice offered in its booklet, “Best Practices for Mosque and Community Safety.” The security advice in the booklet is applicable to any institution or community.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
