(WASHINGTON, D.C., 10/8/21) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned a deadly bombing targeting Shia Muslims at a mosque in Afghanistan during Friday prayers (Jummah) that killed dozens of worshipers.

In a statement, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said:
“We condemn this cowardly and un-Islamic attack on those offering prayers in a house of worship and call for the swift apprehension and punishment of all the perpetrators. The Afghan people, regardless of their ethnicity, sect or school of thought are brothers and sisters, they should unite to reject division and violence.”
He cited the Quran, Islam’s revealed text, which states: “And whoever kills a believer intentionally, their reward will be Hell—where they will stay indefinitely. God will be displeased with them, condemn them, and will prepare for them a tremendous punishment.” The Holy Quran, 4:93
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
