The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned a bomb attack on a mosque in Maiduguri, Nigeria, that killed at least five worshippers and injured dozens more during evening prayers.
In a statement, Washington, D.C., based CAIR said:
“This cowardly attack on innocent worshippers is an affront to human dignity and religious freedom. Mosques are places of peace and prayer, and targeting people during worship is utterly unacceptable. We express our deepest condolences to the families of those killed and pray for the rapid recovery of the injured.”
CAIR said it stands in solidarity with the Muslim community in Nigeria and calls for all parties to redouble efforts to ensure the safety and security of places of worship.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
