Muslim civil rights group also publishes joint op-ed with community partners emphasizing unity against hate
(BALTIMORE, MD, 11/15/18) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned an anti-Semitic neo-Nazi, pro-Trump outburst during a performance of “Fiddler on the Roof” in Baltimore.

Earlier today, a man began shouting “Heil Hitler, heil Trump” and raised his hands in a Nazi salute during the intermission of a “Fiddler on the Roof” performance. The man’s pro-Nazi outburst took place immediately following a scene in the play that depicted a pogrom (an attack on Jewish people) and caused audience members to exit the hall in fear of a shooting. The man was escorted out of the theater.
“We condemn this act of anti-Semitic bigotry and stand in solidarity with the Jewish community in Baltimore and statewide,” said CAIR Maryland Director of Outreach Zainab Chaudry. “We will continue to build coalitions and vocally resist the incitement of fear and division in our society.”
She noted that yesterday, a Nazi swastika and anti-African American graffiti were found in a bathroom at Goucher College.
CAIR has reported an unprecedented spike in bigotry targeting American Muslims, immigrants and members of other minority groups since the election of Donald Trump as president.
