(WASHINGTON, D.C., 1/18/19) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim advocacy and civil rights organization, today condemned what appears to be a Nazi salute by a group of male high school students in Zionsville, Ind.
The photo was taken on school property and shows 14 students, 10 of whom appear to be performing a Nazi salute. The picture was shared on Instagram with the caption, “Rumblin bumblers isn’t just a indoor soccer team, we are a cultural phenomenon.”
In a statement, Zionsville Superintendent Scott Robison called the photograph ”˜sickening’ and ”˜beyond offensive’ and said that a full investigation into the matter would begin when students returned to campus Friday.

“We condemn this apparent display of bigotry and urge the school district to take immediate remedial action,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “Incidents like this reflect a deep-seated ignorance and must be challenged through a curriculum that emphasizes diversity and exposes the painful historical significance of bigoted behavior.”
Hooper noted that CAIR last year condemned a similar salute by teen in Wisconsin.

He said CAIR has reported an unprecedented spike in bigotry targeting American Muslims, immigrants and members of other minority groups since the election of Donald Trump as president. CAIR has repeatedly expressed concern about Islamophobic, white supremacist and racist Trump administration policies and appointments.
CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
