CAIR Condemns Nazi Vandalism of Virginia Jewish Community Center

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 10/6/18) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned Nazi vandalism targeting a Jewish Community Center in Virginia.

Nazi swastikas were spray-painted on the Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia in Fairfax, Va., early this morning. Surveillance video caught a suspect committing the vandalism.

“Acts of anti-Semitic hate are part of a disturbing rise in bigotry targeting minority communities nationwide that must be confronted and rejected by Americans of all faiths and backgrounds,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “Our nation’s leaders must speak out in favor of mutual respect and reject the divisive rhetoric that can prompt such vile, bias-motivated incidents.”

Hooper said CAIR has witnessed an unprecedented spike in bigotry targeting American Muslims, immigrants and members of other minority groups since the election of Donald Trump as president.

The Washington-based civil rights organization and the American Muslim community have in the past expressed solidarity with Jewish, Christian, Native American, African-American, and Sikh communities in New Mexico, Florida, South Carolina, Maryland, Alabama, Massachusetts, South Dakota, Ohio, Texas, and many other states following acts of hate, threats, violence, vandalism, arson, or bombings.

CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
