CAIR Condemns Neo-Nazi, KKK Incidents in Arkansas, Maine

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 10/9/19)– The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned incidents of neo-Nazi graffiti in Arkansas and the dissemination of Ku Klux Klan (KKK) flyers in Maine. 

In Booneville, Ark., police reported finding graffiti representing Nazi ”˜SS Bolts’ and a swastika. This week a suspect confessed to being responsible for the acts of vandalism and was charged with five counts of criminal mischief.

In Maine, residents of the Skowhegan area reportedly received flyers on Monday inviting them to an alleged white supremacist gathering at the Belfast Free Library on Oct. 27. The flyers featured drawings of a KKK hood and a confederate flag

“We condemn these acts of neo-Nazi racism and white supremacy and urge political leaders in Arkansas, Maine and nationwide to address the growing white nationalist movement around the country that has been ignored or downplayed for too long,” said CAIR National Communications Coordinator Ayan Ajeen. 

Ajeen said CAIR has reported an unprecedented spike in bigotry targeting American Muslims, immigrants and members of other minority groups since the election of Donald Trump as president.
