(WASHINGTON D.C., 1/10/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned the racist harassment of Black Iowa lawmakers during a virtual event.
On Friday, the Iowa Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO and Progress Iowa hosted a “People’s Condition of the State” event. The meeting, which was held via Zoom, was hijacked by unknown individuals who said racist slurs and projected racist slurs on the screen. Several Black lawmakers and politicians were present at the event, including Iowa Democratic Party Chair Ross Wilburn, Black Caucus Chair Al Womble, and members of the House Democratic Black Caucus.
