(WASHINGTON D.C., 3/23/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned racist incidents targeting Native American people in South Dakota and Minnesota.
In Rapid City, S.D., the owner of a hotel where a shooting occurred over the weekend said she would “not allow a Native American to enter our business.” Following the owner’s comments, representatives of the city council, Pennington County Commission, state attorney’s office met with tribal leaders and condemned the comments. The owner’s son said his mother is no longer president of the company.
