(WASHINGTON, D.C., 7/10/2017) — The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned racist vandalism by an apparent supporter of President Donald Trump targeting a North Carolina family.
A vandal spray-painted “Trump! Get out N******!” on the driveway of the Nigerian-born couple on Friday.
“Since the election of Donald Trump, we have witnessed an unfortunate spike in hate incidents targeting members of minority groups,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “We condemn this latest racist incident and welcome the community support offered to those impacted by this act of bigotry.”
Hooper said CAIR and the American Muslim community have in the past expressed solidarity with Christian, Jewish, Native American, African-American, and Sikh communities in Colorado, New Mexico, Florida, South Carolina, Maryland, Alabama, Massachusetts, South Dakota, Ohio, Texas, and other states following acts of hate, threats, violence, vandalism, arson, or bombings.
The Washington-based civil rights and advocacy organization urges community members to report any bias incidents to police and to CAIR’s Civil Rights Department at 202-742-6420 or by filing a report at: http://www.cair.com/report
CAIR recently launched an app to share critical “know your rights” information and to simplify the process to report hate crimes and bias incidents. CAIR is urging American Muslims and members of other minority groups to download the app and utilize this resource to stay informed and empowered.
