(BALTIMORE, MD, 2/11/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned a racist “zoombombing” targeting a Black member of Montgomery, Co., Maryland’s county council.
During a virtual meeting Tuesday, Montgomery County Council Member Will Jawando, who is Black, was interrupted by an uninvited, unknown participant with loud music, racial epithets and insults followed by a string of chat messages containing racial slurs.

“We condemn this despicable, hateful attack targeting Council Member Jawando,” said CAIR’s Maryland Director Zainab Chaudry. “As racism and bigotry continue to rise, we urge communities in Maryland and nationwide to come together to oppose hate.”
She said the American Muslim community and CAIR stand in solidarity with all those challenging anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, antisemitism, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
