The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned what it called the Biden administration’s “dishonest” campaign to pressure senators to approve continued weapons deliveries to the far-right Israeli government for its genocide in Gaza.
HuffPost obtained a copy of talking points the White House is circulating on Capitol Hill ahead of a vote on sending military equipment to send Israel. According to HuffPost, administration officials are falsely suggesting those who vote against the delivery of the weapons “are empowering American and Israeli foes from Iran to the militant groups Hamas and Hezbollah.”
CAIR recently issued an action alert urging all Americans to tell their senators to support the resolution proposed by Sen. Bernie Sanders that would block $20 billion in arms shipments to the Israeli government.
In a statement, CAIR Government Affairs Director Robert McCaw said:
“We strongly condemn the White House’s dishonest campaign to pressure Senate Democrats into avoiding even a symbolic vote against the delivery of more American taxpayer-funded weapons to the out-of-control Netanyahu government. The Biden administration’s foreign policy in the Middle East has been a disastrous failure. Senators should exercise their own judgment, reject this pressure campaign and express the American public’s objection to the Israeli government’s misuse of American taxpayer dollars.”
CAIR previously condemned the Biden administration’s veto of a U.N. resolution that could have resulted in full United Nations membership for the State of Palestine.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
