(WASHINGTON, D.C., 5/13/19) – The Connecticut chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-CT), a chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on law enforcement authorities to investigate a possible bias motive for a fire set at a New Haven mosque.
Officials said they believe the fire Sunday at the Diyanet Mosque, which is still under construction, was intentionally set. The fire started on the first floor of the building and spread to the second level.

“Given recent attacks on houses of worship in this country and around the world, it is incumbent on law enforcement authorities to investigate the possibility of a bias motive for this arson,” said CAIR-CT Executive Director Tark Aouadi.
He noted that an arsonist recently targeted a mosque in Escondido, Calif., and left a note referencing the terrorist attacks on mosques in New Zealand.
