Media sources are reporting “On Wednesday, he (Omer Abdelgader, the Islamic Center President) left his home around 1 p.m. for afternoon prayers. When he returned from the mosque about 40 minutes later, he found a shirt hanging on a utility pole outside of his home with statements referring to ISIS and the September 11 terrorist attacks.
“There is no place for these kinds of incidents in a diverse and welcoming city like the city of New Britain. We must come together as leaders from all faith backgrounds to condemn these acts and show that our community is united in standing with the Muslim community.” said Mongi Dhaouadi, Executive Director of CAIR-CT.
Ibrahim Essuraimi, the Imam of the Islamic Center added: “We will double our effort in reaching out to our community members and welcome them to our place of worship with open arms. We can only fight hate with love and compassion as we are instructed by our creator”
The New Britain Police are investigating the incident as a possible hate crime.
