(HARTFORD, CT, 5/24/2022) – The Connecticut chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-CT) today welcomed Gov. Ned Lamont’s signing of legislation designed to enhance investigations into hate crimes by the Connecticut state police.
“We welcome this new legislation as an indication that hate crime investigations will be treated with the seriousness they deserve by law enforcement authorities,” said CAIR-CT Chairman Farhan Memon. “Because hate crimes targeting all minority communities are on the rise, government institutions should have the laws and resources necessary to push back against bigotry.”
He noted that CAIR-CT recently condemned an allegedly bias-motivated arson of a vehicle belonging to a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or Mormons and sought the public’s help in identifying someone who vandalized a mosque in that state.

Memon added that CAIR-CT also condemned the distribution of racist flyers to neighborhoods in West Hartford.
He said the American Muslim community and CAIR stand in solidarity with all those challenging anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, antisemitism, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
