CAIR-CT Condemns Defacing of Black Lives Matter Mural with Nazi Symbol

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 6/12/2023) – The Connecticut chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIRCT), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned the defacing of the Black Lives Matter mural in Hartford, Conn., weekend with a Nazi swastika and a message of white supremacy.

“We condemn this attempt by neo-Nazis to spread hate and division in our community,” said CAIR-Connecticut Chair Farhan Memon. “Every American must speak out strongly whenever racists and other bigots seek to divide our society and spread hatred.”

He added that CAIR-CT recently condemned the distribution of racist letters in Thompson, Conn.

Memon noted that earlier this year, CAIR-CT condemned the distribution of racist flyers in Rocky Hill, and Westport, Conn.

He said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
