(MIAMI, FL, 8/9/07) – On Saturday, August 11, the South Florida chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-SFL) and more than 20 other Islamic centers and organizations in South Florida will distribute school supplies to needy children and families.

This event is part of CAIR’s annual “Muslims Care” campaign designed to encourage communities to reach out to their neighbors and make a positive contribution to our society.
The drive will provide much-needed school supplies in neighborhoods lacking educational resources. More than 20 Islamic centers will participate and assist in providing the supplies.
“As American Muslims we have a moral obligation to contribute to the communities in which we live,” said CAIR-South Florida Executive Director Altaf Ali. “Our charitable efforts need to reach beyond the walls of our mosques to benefit the larger community.”
CAIR, America’s largest Islamic civil liberties group, has 33 offices and chapters nationwide and in Canada. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
