(ORLANDO, FL, 8/15/07) – On Thursday, August 16, the Orlando chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Orlando) will hold a news conference to call on the FBI, the State Attorney and the Orlando Police Department to investigate an alleged Islamophobic assault on a Muslim shopper at The Children’s Place in the Prime Outlet Mall.

WHERE: Corner of Oak Ridge Road and the 5000 Block of International Drive Orlando, FL (On the corner where Outdoor World sits in Festival Bay. Across the street from Prime Outlet entrance and signs.)
At the news conference, CAIR-Orlando will also call on Prime Outlets’ management to investigate the alleged misconduct of its security guards and ask The Children’s Place to cooperate in providing witness statements collected by store employees.
The alleged victim and a witness will attend the news conference and be available for questions.
The Muslim shopper, who is of North African heritage, alleges he was the victim of verbal abuse, threats and battery by another customer.
During the incident, the assailant allegedly shouted “Go back to your country,” “terrorist,” and other anti-Muslim and racist slurs. The victim also alleges that security officers of the Prime Outlet Mall refused to come to his aid and kept witnesses from making statements to police. He also alleges that local police refused to arrest the assailant.
