(MIAMI, FL, 1/15/19) — The Florida chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Florida) today called for the resignation of Hallandale Commissioner Annabelle Lima-Taub’s who claimed online that newly-elected Muslim Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib might ”˜blow up’ Capitol Hill.
The Florida Sun-Sentinel reported that “. . .[a] Jewish commissioner from Hallandale Beach has accused a Muslim congresswoman from Michigan of being an anti-Semite who might ”˜. . .blow up Capitol Hill.’” The report also states that Hallandale Commissioner Lima-Taub signed an online petition seeking to remove Congresswoman Tlaib from office and posted the petition on her personal Facebook page stating, “She [Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib] is a danger and (I) would not put it past her to become a martyr and blow up Capitol Hill.”

In a statement, CAIR-Florida Communications Director Wilfredo Ruiz said:
“Holding a public office comes with great responsibilities. Xenophobic stereotypes must not be embraced by any elected official. CAIR-Florida strongly condemns the disgraceful racist and Islamophobic statements published by Commissioner Annabelle Lima-Taub. Her un-American, xenophobic statements establish that she is unfit to hold the Commissioner’s seat. She must apologize immediately and follow up that apology with her resignation.”
