(MIAMI, FL, 8/17/2018) — The Florida chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Florida) today condemned Father Ireneusz Ekiert’s numerous anti-Islam and anti-immigrant social media posts and calls for an apology and for disciplinary action by Miami’s Archbishop.
It has been reported that Father Ekiert, resident of Parkland and Parish Administrator of Mary Help of Christians Church, published numerous anti-Islam and anti-immigrant articles on social media. Indignant parishioners have reported to Parkland Talk, a popular online publication, that one of their priests may not be a good role model after viewing his social media posts. In them, he found extreme views against Islam, Arabs, and immigrants along with other socialist and political rhetoric.
CAIR-Florida Communications Director, Wilfredo Amr Ruiz, stated:
“Father Ekiert should realize that he serves a very diverse community in Broward County. We condemn his anti-Islam and anti-immigrant postings that hinder the much-needed spiritual healing for the Parkland community and the Mary Help of Christians Church parishioners. We call on the Archbishop of Miami, Thomas G. Wenski, to swiftly condemn these incendiary comments and take immediate disciplinary action against what appears to be a rogue priest spreading hate and division instead of love, mercy and healing for both the immigrant and the interfaith communities.”
CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
