CAIR: Trump backs his Pentagon chief nominee Pete Hegseth as controversies mount – Al Jazeera

The allegations prompted the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) to call on senators to reject the nomination of Hegseth.

“Based on his current views and past actions, it is clear Mr. Hegseth is totally inappropriate as a nominee for secretary of defense,” CAIR’s executive director, Nihad Awad, said in a statement.

“Anyone who — even in a drunken state — would call for the slaughter of all members of a faith has disqualified himself from holding an important position that would inevitably interact with representatives of Muslim-majority nations.”

CAIR: Tim Walz ‘Surprised’ He and Kamala Harris Lost Election – Newsweek

Nihad Awad, national executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, previously told Newsweek in statement: “It is important for Democratic and other elected officials to recognize that Vice President Harris’ steep drop in support in key states compared to President Biden’s 2020 victory resulted, in part, from the deep frustration and disillusionment that many young, Muslim, Arab, Black and other voters feel with the Biden-Harris administration due to its steadfast financial and military support for Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza.”

He continued: “Rather than listening to the clear majority of Americans who support both a ceasefire and a suspension of weapons to Israel, Vice President Harris only struck a slightly more sympathetic tone toward Palestinians while sticking with the substance of President Biden’s disastrous stance. This led to an unprecedented shift of support from Muslim, Arab and other communities who traditionally vote for Democratic presidents.”

CAIR-NJ: Sherrill Weighs in on Montclair Cop Chaplain Controversy – Montclair Local

The New Jersey chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations on Friday spoke against the township’s decision to dissolve the formal chaplain program, describing the action as one that stifles free speech.

“CAIR-New Jersey is disheartened by the disbanding of the police chaplain program in Montclair,” CAIR-NJ spokesperson Aya Elamroussi said in a statement. “This decision not only does a harmful disservice to the vibrant community of Montclair, but it also creates a sense of intimidation around the consequences of exercising free speech that aims to shed light on the many ongoing injustices around the world.”

“As a civil rights advocacy organization, CAIR-New Jersey denounces all forms of discrimination against all groups — and that includes our unequivocal opposition to antisemitism, anti-Muslim and anti-Arab bigotry.”
