CAIR-NJ: ‘Call for a permanent cease-fire’: In Paterson, an appeal to Biden on Presidents’ Day
Also in attendance were several members of the Paterson City Council; representatives from Pax Christi, a Catholic peace group, Jewish Voices for Peace and the Council on American-Islamic Relations; and Sami Shaban, a Franklin Township school board member who lost 19 members of his family in the bombardment of Gaza, among others.
CAIR: American Muslims continue legal fight against FBI terror watchlist
CAIR National Deputy Executive Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell told Anadolu that this surveillance system significantly hampers the daily lives of Muslims across various facets of society.
American Muslims “might be subjected to extra security when they are applying for a job, when they are trying to open a bank account, when they’re getting on a plane. They might have to jump through extra hoops to accomplish any of the things that other Americans can do very easily without having to deal with suspicion,” he said.
CAIR: This judicial nominee faced ‘hate and bigotry.’ Will he make history?
The Council on American-Islamic Relations condemned what it called an “Islamophobic” line of questioning from Republicans. “Forcing him to answer ‘gotcha questions’ about the Middle East simply because of faith or because of his tangential connections to Muslims who comment on the Middle East is Islamophobic and un-American,” the advocacy group said in a statement.

CAIR-MI: Anti-Semitic, anti-Muslim incidents on the rise

CAIR-NJ: Charges dropped against Paterson cop in excessive force case
The incident first became public in February of 2021 when the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) of New Jersey released a copy of the video and condemned the police department’s handling of Alsaidi’s complaint.
CAIR spoke out against the criminal charges being dropped.
“We are disappointed to see that Officer Tineo-Restituyo will have charges against him dropped, despite playing an active role in the assault of Osamah Alsaidi, who was 19 years old at the time and was diagnosed with head trauma and a concussion,” said Dina Sayedahmed, CAIR’s spokesperson. “We continue to call on the Paterson Police Department to terminate the two officers, who breached their duty to protect and serve.”
CAIR said the Alsaidi case provided “a window into Paterson Police Department, which has a reputation for high-profile misconduct, including a number of criminal offenses.” Sayedahmed said police officers should be held to a higher level of scrutiny and accountability.
“So long as police officers continue to approach people with impunity, there will be a mistrust between local communities and police forces,” said CAIR.
