In a statement Monday, the Texas chapter of CAIR, which is the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, praised the decision to re-arrest the defendant with a higher bond.
“The affected family and the American Muslim community are temporarily relieved to know the alleged perpetrator is in custody again,” CAIR-Austin Operations Manager Shaimaa Zayan said.

“It is painful to see another brown boy murdered at the hands of a man who is acting as a vigilante,” said Imraan Siddiqi, executive director of CAIR-WA. “Myers had no authority to stop the young men, no indication of a real threat, and, as if that isn’t enough, six of the seven shots that killed Hazrat Ali Rohani were shot into his back. We must ask ourselves how race and ethnicity played a role in Myers’ actions.”

The Oklahoma chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-OK), a chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, called it a dangerous encroachment on the establishment clause by supporting the teaching of a particular interpretation of the Bible as truth.
“As the Constitution outlines, religious freedom allows for the academic instruction of religion in subjects such as geography, social studies, and history,” said CAIR-OK Director Adam Soltani. “To require religious scripture, regardless of which one it may be, to be incorporated into lessons in our schools, however, is a clear violation of the Constitution’s establishment clause and infringes on the rights of our students and their families.”

In a statement, CAIR national communications director Ibrahim Hooper said: “We condemn this horrific shooting as yet another manifestation of the rising bigotry we are witnessing nationwide targeting minority communities.
