CAIR: Video of Israeli soldier bragging about killing elderly Palestinian condemned – Al jazeera

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) denounced a video in which an Israeli soldier brags about killing an elderly Palestinian man as he hid under a bed in his home during a raid.

Al Jazeera obtained exclusive bodycam video of the alleged execution in Gaza dated November 6.

“As the forces of the far-right Israeli government brag to each other about the execution of an elderly Palestinian, the Biden administration offers only piecemeal aid increases and softened rhetoric while allowing the genocide, forced starvation and ethnic cleansing to continue on camera aided and abetted by US support,” said CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad.

CAIR-MA: ‘A special month for the entire world’

Ramadan, the Muslim holy month, isn’t just for Muslims, according to Tahirah Amatul-Wadud, the executive director and chief legal officer for the Massachusetts chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

“We believe that [Ramadan] is a special month for the entire world and that the entire world benefits from the mercy and the goodness that God promises will be given in that month and so we hope and extend greetings of goodwill to humankind,” she told MassLive.

In addition to fasting, Muslims also give to charity during Ramadan, says Hussam Ayloush, who heads the Council on American Islamic Relations in California.

“One of the exercises meant in Islam by God during the month of Ramadan is to teach us to feel empathy toward those who have less privileges than we have,” he says.

Ayloush is pained by how the war is affecting Muslims’ ability to live out this pillar of the faith. In the past, Muslims in the U.S. might send money or care packages to their relatives and friends in Gaza but the war has changed that.

CAIR-DFW: Trans Empowerment Coalition director among those arrested at anti-war protest -Dallas Voice

According to a press release from the Council on American-Islamic Relations Dallas-Fort Worth chapter, some of the women arrested at the protest had their hijabs “forcibly removed for mugshots.”

“By allegedly forcibly removing the hijabs of the female protesters, Garland police violated their fundamental right to religious liberty,” the press release said. “We call on law enforcement authorities to allow the protesters to retake their photos with their hijabs and to delete the photos without them. No American should have their First Amendment rights violated while seeking to end support for genocide.”
