The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), however, decried Macklemore’s removal.
“We call on Mr. Sheeran and the tour promoters to reverse course. They should pursue legal options or reschedule his tour rather than give in to bullying by billionaires who care about free speech as much as they care about slaughtered Palestinian children,” CAIR Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said. “Macklemore is taking a courageous and moral stand and Mr. Sheeran should bravely stand with him. The companies responsible for this attack on free speech for the benefit of a foreign government must be held accountable.”

The Council on American-Islamic Relations condemned the decision to remove Macklemore.
“Privately owned sports stadiums should never threaten to ban musicians because they dare to oppose a genocide, and publicly owned stadiums entities cannot engage in such censorship without violating the First Amendment,” read a statement from National Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell. Raymond James is a publicly-owned stadium. “We call on Mr. Sheeran and the tour promoters to reverse course.”

The Massachusetts chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations condemned the attack and “welcomed hate crime charges brought against the alleged perpetrator.”
“No one should ever have to fear for their safety or be subjected to brutal violence simply while going about their daily routine,” CAIR-MA Executive Director Tahirah Amatul-Wadud said in a statement. “The vicious anti-Black racism displayed in this attack is a disturbing reminder of the hate that marginalized communities continue to face.”
