The American Muslim civil rights organization CAIR accused conference speakers of promoting false images of immigrants in Britain, comparing the attacks to “bigotry said about Jewish European” immigrants who came the U.S. in the 20th century.
“Stephen K. Bannon and other conservatives who are still hyping the imaginary threat of Muslims are increasingly out of step with not only American people, but also the conservative movement,”said Edward Ahmed Mitchell, CAIR’s national deputy director.
Mitchell said the comments, alongside Elon Musk’s recent promotion of inflammatory social media content by the prominent British far-right figure Tommy Robinson, risked inciting anti-Islam extremists “taking matters into their own hands,” referring to a spike in hate crimes against Muslims in the U.K.

Robert Sichta, an immigration attorney with the Council on American-Islamic Relations in Florida, said the cost of hiring a lawyer is often out of reach for many, especially given their income levels. His group provides legal support but cannot take on every case, so it works with other attorneys who lower their fees and offer payment plans.
