BACKGROUND:

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization. Jetpac is a representative-driven organization that trains American Muslims who want to run for office.

In 2020, CAIR and Jetpac release a comprehensive report of all Muslim-identifying candidates who ran for public office in 2020. Titled “American Muslims Breaking Barriers | Running for Office in 2020,” CAIR and Jetpac’s report found record number of 181 Muslim candidates ran for office in 28 states and Washington D.C. in 2020, out of which 80 were successfully elected to office.

CAIR and Jetpac have been tracking and reporting on Muslim candidates running for office since 2016. The national directory of elected Muslim officials is the culmination of that work.

Jetpac is a representation-driven civic engagement organization. Its mission is to make our government more representative of the American people.

CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
