(WASHINGTON D.C., 1/7/2022) – The Kentucky chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Kentucky) today welcomed the firing of a teacher who made racist comments to and assaulted a Black student.
A teacher at Louisville’s Marion C. Moore School has been fired after he reportedly made racist comments and assaulted a Black student in August. A video of the incident shows the teacher pinning the teenage student to the ground and pulling his hair.
The altercation started after the teacher reportedly told the student, who is a drive-by shooting victim, that he was “just another Black boy that got shot.” The student’s family is suing the teacher for physical and emotional stress and humiliation.

In a statement, CAIR Kentucky Board Chair Salah Shakir said:
“It is completely unacceptable for a teacher to make such appalling comments to a student, let alone to physically assault a student. We welcome the firing of the teacher and urge Jefferson County Public Schools to implement updated anti-racism policies to ensure such incidents don’t continue to occur.”
Shakir said the American Muslim community and CAIR stand in solidarity with all those challenging anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, antisemitism, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
