CAIR-LA Condemns Trump’s Call for Ethnic Cleansing of Gaza, Emphasizes That ‘Gaza Belongs to the Palestinian People’

The Greater Los Angeles Area office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-LA) today condemned President Trump’s call for the ethnic cleansing of Gaza after he stated that the United States would “take over the Gaza strip” and “own it.” CAIR-LA also emphasized that “Gaza belongs to the Palestinian people.”

In a statement, CAIR-LA Executive Director Hussam Ayloush said:

“Gaza belongs to the Palestinian people, and no foreign government has the right to dictate their fate or forcibly expel them from their homeland, especially not the U.S. who, for fifteen months, funded Israel’s genocide and brutal violence against civilians in Gaza. President Trump’s comments are a clear call for ethnic cleansing in Gaza and a flagrant violation of international law.

“The solution to achieving peace and rebuilding Gaza is not to remain complicit in Israel’s war crimes and dehumanization of the Palestinian people; our administration must establish a new paradigm that is rooted in ending Israel’s brutal apartheid system and illegal occupation of Palestinian land.”

Last year, CAIR applauded the International Criminal Court for issuing arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza genocide.

CAIR-LA is Southern California’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice and empower American Muslims.
